Article Formatter is a collection of free browser-based text tools. Your privacy matters to us, and we've built these tools with a privacy-first approach. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

How Our Tools Work

All text processing on Article Formatter happens entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. When you paste text into any of our tools - the Article Formatter, Word Counter, Markdown to HTML Converter, HTML to Plain Text tool, Text Case Converter, Remove Duplicate Lines, CSV to Table Converter, Text Diff Checker, or JSON Formatter - your text is never sent to our servers. It stays on your device, gets processed locally, and disappears when you close the tab.

We do not store, read, or have access to any text you enter into our tools. There are no user accounts, no saved documents, and no server-side processing of your content.

Information We Collect

Analytics Data

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people use our site. Google Analytics collects standard usage data including:

  • Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
  • Your general geographic region (country/city level)
  • Device type, browser, and operating system
  • How you arrived at our site (search engine, direct link, etc.)

This data is aggregated and used to improve our tools. We do not combine analytics data with any personally identifying information. Google Analytics may use cookies to distinguish unique visitors - see the Cookies section below for details.

Server Logs

Like most websites, our web server automatically records basic request information in server logs. This includes your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the time of your visit. These logs are used for security monitoring and troubleshooting, and are not shared with third parties.

Cookies

Article Formatter uses cookies only through Google Analytics. These cookies help us understand site usage patterns. We do not use cookies for advertising, tracking across other websites, or personalization.

The cookies set by Google Analytics include:

  • _ga - Used to distinguish unique visitors. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_* - Used to maintain session state. Expires after 2 years.

You can block these cookies through your browser settings or by using a browser extension like Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Our tools work the same way with or without cookies enabled.

Third-Party Services

The only third-party service we use is Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

We do not use any advertising networks, social media trackers, or other third-party analytics services.

Data We Don't Collect

To be clear about what we do not do:

  • We do not collect, store, or process the text you enter into our tools
  • We do not require user registration or collect personal information like names or email addresses
  • We do not sell any data to third parties
  • We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels
  • We do not build user profiles or use any form of behavioral targeting

Children's Privacy

Our tools are available for general use and do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we don't collect personal information from any user, this applies by design.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your data:

  • GDPR (EU/EEA users): You have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since we only collect anonymized analytics data, there is generally no personally identifiable data to retrieve. You can opt out of Google Analytics using the browser add-on linked above.
  • CCPA (California users): You have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information. The analytics data we collect through Google is described above.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
